Sustainable Future

We decided to investigate further into the location of our site as well as our personal perspectives of Brisbane CBD. I had remember hearing that 90% of our city was above eye level. I was interested in this idea as a city commuter mainly focuses on whatever is at eye level and rarely looks up to take in the magnificent architecture and intricate facade designs.

I presented the idea of creating 'layers' within the city which could be represented by the use of 'platforms' between buildings. I was interested in the idea of 'space between buildings' - not at ground level. How could these spaces be utilised in a way that is efficient and usable? Furthermore, is this sustainable?

Currently, Brisbane CBD lacks connectivity between buildings. The empty pockets of space serve no purpose and there is a negative stigma associated with them. Most of these spaces are labelled as 'alleyways' which is perceived as unsafe by many. This label is the result of the natural progression of city life which has failed to sustain an aesthetic appeal. Due to the lack of awarness and urban planning, the current state of Brisbane CBD lacks identity. However, from awareness comes resolution and this is where opportunity takes place..
